Both slings are made from Yalex polyester and both adjust, so they get mixed up. The difference is how they adjust and what they are built for. A Yalex adjustable sling is a single-ended sling you set to length. A transformer sling is double ended, with an adjustable eye on each end, and it is built for lifting can-type transformers.
| Rope Size | Yalex Adjustable Sling | Transformer Sling |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2 in | 2,450 lb | 2,200 lb |
| 5/8 in | 3,250 lb | 3,200 lb |
| 3/4 in | 4,576 lb | 4,225 lb |
All ratings are vertical working load limits from the Rope Guru listings. Each one links to that size's product page. The Yalex adjustable sling is 12 strand coated polyester.

Use it when one sling has to cover several lengths. Slide the adjuster to the length you need, smooth out the adjustment area, then load. It cuts the number of slings in the truck, and it works for tree crews as well as utility crews.
Use it for can-type transformers. Both ends adjust, so one sling covers different pole and hook heights without carrying several eye-to-eye slings. The chafe sleeve in the center and at each eye protects the sling where it takes the most wear. Listed lengths are with each end set to a 4 in eye.
The listed ratings are vertical. Rope Guru notes that working load limits drop sharply once load angles are introduced, so figure the angle on every lift before you pick a size. Yale Cordage also notes that knots and sharp bends lower strength, that you choke only in the eye or body and never on the adjuster, and that sudden load changes count as shock loading.
A Yalex adjustable sling is one adjustable sling set to length. A transformer sling is double ended with an adjustable eye on each end and a chafe sleeve, and is made for lifting can-type transformers.
Pick from the vertical WLL for the size, then reduce for the load angle. The 1/2 in rates 2,450 lb (Yalex) or 2,200 lb (transformer), the 5/8 in 3,250 lb or 3,200 lb, and the 3/4 in 4,576 lb or 4,225 lb.
The listed WLL is vertical. Angles reduce the working load, so confirm the load angle before you lift.
No. Yale Cordage says to choke only in the eye or body, never on the adjuster.
