Utility Solutions Hot Stick Fuse Probes: Longhorn, Quick Grab and Fuzzy Finger

Utility Solutions makes three hot stick fuse probes for overhead distribution work: the Longhorn Probe, the Quick Grab Probe and the Fuzzy Finger. Each item number below links to its Powertech store page.

Longhorn Probe

The Longhorn Probe comes in two sizes, the 2.5 in Stubby and the 4 in. Utility Solutions lists these features:

Slim straight probe for managing fuse barrels at full stick extension.
Curved, negative-angle probe that keeps fuses steady as the stick moves in or out.
Precision machined for rugged performance.
Hi-Vis finish for quick identification in the field.
Stainless steel and aluminum construction.

It is made for overhead distribution systems and is compatible with spline-end attachments.

Quick Grab Probe

Utility Solutions redesigned and expanded the Quick Grab Probe (QGP) for wider compatibility and efficient fuse handling. The fully machined QGP improves on the earlier probe with a stronger, more durable product. The PWR style is made for SMU or CMU style power fuses. Hi-Visibility (-F) and Fuzzy Finger (-FFP) options are available, and the line carries a Limited-Lifetime Warranty. Select models with Fuzzy Finger bristles are patent pending.

Fuzzy Finger

The Fuzzy Finger is a hot stick attachment that provides the functions of a standard probe plus bristles for securely controlling a fuse barrel. Utility Solutions lists these features:

Gives a more secure hold when removing and replacing most standard fuse barrels on the market.
Replaceable nylon bristles for a safe, simple way to control a fuse barrel, even in high winds.
Machined from lightweight aluminum, which Utility Solutions says makes it stronger and more durable than other probes.
Works on any hot stick universal head.
Patent pending design.

A repair kit (USSA-FFP-REPAIRKIT) is available, and Utility Solutions publishes a user manual for the USSA-FFP.
