The LOAD-TRAINER™ 2.0 (item XFMR-002) is a transformer simulator from Utility Solutions, Inc. that lets lineworkers practice transformer banking, polarity, phase relationships and fault troubleshooting on a training board instead of an energized bank. It is the updated version of the original XFMR-001 trainer and is currently available for preorder.
The trainer pairs a hands-on wiring board with a 21-inch touchscreen display. Students make connections with color-coded leads and banana plugs, then see the result in real time, including what is happening inside the transformer. That makes it one of the few ways to show apprentices exactly why a connection works or fails before they ever climb a pole.
The trainer covers the distribution transformer connections lineworkers see in the field, plus the hazards that come with getting them wrong:
Version 2.0 keeps the color-coded leads and real-time testing of the original trainer and adds:
It is built for utility training centers, apprenticeship programs, line schools and co-ops that teach transformer work. It works for new apprentices learning banking for the first time and for experienced lineworkers brushing up on less common connections.
Transformer banking mistakes are costly and dangerous in the field. A crossed polarity, a floating neutral or a backfeed through the secondary can damage customer equipment or put a crew at risk. A simulator lets students make those mistakes safely, see the result on screen and understand the cause.
It also makes abstract concepts visible. Vector diagrams and the X-Ray View show phase angles and coil connections that are hard to picture from a textbook. Instructors can repeat a scenario as many times as needed without pulling a real bank out of service.
The item number is XFMR-002. The original trainer is XFMR-001.
It is currently offered on preorder. Contact UPSC for current availability and pricing.
The XFMR-002 adds a 21-inch touchscreen, X-Ray View of the transformer internals, a nameplate feature, upgraded vector diagrams, an instructor troubleshooting mode and uniform banana plug inputs. It keeps the color-coded leads and real-time testing of the XFMR-001.
Yes. Both are built-in training scenarios, along with multiple secondary voltage setups.
Yes. Students can build wye and delta configurations as well as open and closed banks.
Yes. The troubleshooting mode lets instructors set up fault scenarios for hands-on practice with visual feedback.
