Ripley Tools for Separable Connectors and Load Break Elbows

Separable connector systems need the right torque. Under-tighten a plug and the connection can be poor, and over-tighten it and you can damage the hardware. Ripley UtilityTool makes torque wrenches and insertion tools for 600 A separable connectors and 200 A load break elbows that build the correct torque into the tool. This guide lists each tool, what it installs, its torque and its part number.

600 A Separable Connector Torque Tools

Ripley TSW-4550 Torque Spanner Wrench

The TSW-4550 installs epoxy connector plugs, reducing tap plugs and reducing tap wells in 600 A separable connector systems. It provides the proper 50 to 60 ft-lb torque without over- or under-tightening, and it removes the need for an external torque wrench or wrench length calculations. A long spanner prong prevents the wrench from slipping. It is 14.375 in (365 mm) long and weighs 2 lb 3 oz (1 kg). Made in USA.

Ripley TRW5060/TSA Torque Wrench

The TRW5060/TSA installs rubber connecting plugs, rubber load break reducing tap plugs and insulating plugs on 600 A separable connector systems using a 1 inch socket. It applies 50 to 60 ft-lb of torque. The dual hex shaft comes in 5/16 in and 3/8 in sizes and the wrench has a 1/2 in square drive. Custom torque settings are available on request. Made in USA.

TSW-4550 or TRW5060: Which One?

Choose by the plug. The TSW-4550 is for epoxy connector plugs, reducing tap plugs and reducing tap wells. The TRW5060/TSA is for rubber connecting plugs, rubber load break reducing tap plugs and insulating plugs. Both apply 50 to 60 ft-lb. For the plug types in a Richards deadbreak system, see our deadbreak accessories guide, and check plug compatibility before you order.

Load Break Elbow Tools

Ripley PIT 1T Probe Insertion Tool

The PIT 1T inserts a load break probe into small-interface elbows rated 15 to 34.5 kV. It provides 125 in-lb of torque without probe breakage or contamination, and reversing the tightening action removes the probe. Ripley lists compatibility with all load break elbows. The handle is adjustable and removable, so it works as a full T-handle or as a moment arm where space is limited. It includes a 1 in (25 mm) steel drive and an adjustable wrench, plus a 3/8 in (10 mm) square drive socket and a standard Penta head. It is 9.375 in (238.1 mm) long and weighs 1 lb 4 oz (568 g).

Ripley PIT 2 Probe Insertion Tool

The PIT 2 is for quick insertion of a load break probe into a 34.5 kV Cooper Power Systems elbow. It makes a tight connection while protecting the probe arc follower from contamination or breakage. It has a 1 in (25 mm) hex on the end, is 10 in (254 mm) long and weighs 1 lb (454 g).

200 A Load Break Bushing Insert Tools

The LBIT-1T secures 200 A bushing inserts with an internal hexagon socket drive for positive installation and removal. It has an adjustable T-handle, a 1 in (25.4 mm) square socket drive, a 7/8 in (22.2 mm) hexagon for a wrench and a standard Penta head. It is 14.25 in (362 mm) long and weighs 21 oz (596 g).
